Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium (PP)

What is pupil premium (PP)?

Introduced in 2011, pupil premium (PP) is additional funding for pupils who are looked after by the local authority, those who have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years (also known as Ever 6 FSM) and for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.  This funding is used to:

  • raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to reach their full potential
  • support children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces

How was the pupil premium grant (PPG) calculated for the academic year 2022 – 2023?

The pupil premium grant for the academic year 2022 to 2023 was calculated linked to information given in the January 2022 school census.  It included a pupil premium payment for each child who had registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years, those looked after by the local authority and the children of armed service personnel.

Who allocates and calculates the amount of the pupil premium grant (PPG)?

The DfE allocates the pupil premium grant (PPG) to schools and local authorities.  It is calculated as below:

  • £1,345 per pupil for each Ever 6 FSM FTE pupil aged 4 and over in year groups reception to year 6, except where the pupil is allocated the LAC or post-LAC premium
  • £2,345 per pupil for each LAC and post-LAC in year groups reception to year 11
  • £310 for each pupil aged 4 and over in year groups reception to year 11 who is either an Ever 6 service child FTE or in receipt of pensions under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) and the War Pensions Scheme (WPS)

How is the pupil premium grant used at Woodloes Primary School?

At Woodloes Primary School, we provide all pupils with high quality teaching which is supplemented by interventions to support vulnerable learners, as and when required.  The pupil premium grant (PPG) is allocated to initiatives throughout the academic year; ensuring that pupils in receipt of the grant are given the opportunity to reach their full potential, both academically as well as socially.

The School Leadership Team (SLT) and the Governing Body monitor the impact of all spending and interventions linked to the pupil premium grant.

Are you eligible for Pupil Premium?

Did you know that our school receives funding to help children who are eligible for free school meals?

This means we can help support families to enrich their children’s’ learning experiences through school trips and clubs, learning support, music and swimming lessons.

Even if your child already receives universal free school meals (Reception, Year 1 and 2) you may still be entitled to apply!

Families who receive the following are eligible for Pupil Premium, including free school meals:

  • income support
  • income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
  • income-related employment and support allowance (ESA)
  • guarantee element of state pension credit
  • Universal Credit (with an annual income of less than £7,400)
  • Both income-based and contribution-based JSA/ESA if you receive the same amount for both. You should also qualify if you receive both but the income-based amount is greater, but not if the contribution-based amount is greater.
  • Families who are awarded Child Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HMRC, not in excess of £16,190 are also eligible to claim free school meals providing there is no entitlement to Working Tax Credit (unless in respect of a 4-week ‘run-on’).
