Accelerated Reader

Our Accelerated Reader (AR) quiz platform is available for children to access during school term dates, allowing them to complete quizzes as part of home learning.

All pupils with an existing AR login can access the system using the link below.
Please ensure your child has fully finished reading their book before starting a quiz.

Weekend and Holiday Access

Quizzing will also remain open during weekends and school holidays until the end of the academic year in July.

Quizzing on Books from Home

Children are encouraged to quiz on any suitable books they’re reading at home.
To check if a book is available for quizzing, please visit arbookfind.co.uk.
We recommend that pupils only quiz on books within their current ZPD level (Zone of Proximal Development).
Your child’s ZPD band should be listed with their login details, and you can also refer to the colour band guide below:

Colour BandZPD Range
Lime 0.0 – 1.9

Dark Blue 3.0 – 3.9

If you or your child are unsure of their ZPD band, please contact the school office for support.

Supporting Your Child at Home

Quizzes should ideally be completed independently. However, parents and carers can support by:

  • Talking about the book together while reading

  • Encouraging your child to read quiz questions aloud

  • Rephrasing questions if needed

  • Helping your child eliminate incorrect answers

  • Suggesting they look back through the book for clues

Note: If you’re prompted for an administration password, please make sure you have selected the Accelerated Reader tab and not Star Reader.

The Literacy Tree

At Woodloes Primary School, we are proud to be a Literacy Tree school, embracing a book-based, whole-school approach to literacy that empowers every child to become a confident reader, writer and communicator.

By following the structured, literature-rich framework offered by Literacy Tree, our staff plan thematic units rooted in powerful texts, develop their own pedagogical expertise, and deliver daily lessons in reading, writing, spelling and vocabulary that inspire and engage.

Our partnership with Literacy Tree means that learning is consistent and coherent across year groups, with clear progression steps and assessment tools to track pupil growth. The result? Children who are enthusiastic about stories, motivated to write, and proud of their work.

We believe every child at Woodloes deserves access to high-quality literacy instruction that fosters imagination, curiosity and the will to express themselves. Being a Literacy Tree school is central to that belief.

Writing at Woodloes

At Woodloes, we believe that writing is an essential life skill that enables children to express themselves with clarity, creativity and confidence. Our teaching of writing is firmly rooted in the National Curriculum, ensuring that pupils develop secure knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, transcriptional skills and composition.

To enrich our writing curriculum, we follow The Literacy Tree, a high-quality, book-based approach that places children’s literature at the heart of learning. Each writing unit is built around an engaging, diverse and carefully chosen text, providing meaningful contexts for reading, writing and discussion. This approach inspires children to write for real purposes and audiences, while exposing them to rich language and a wide range of writing genres.

Through The Literacy Tree, pupils move through a cycle of immersion, vocabulary exploration, planning, drafting, editing and publishing. They develop as confident writers who can craft their ideas with increasing independence, precision and creativity. Grammar and punctuation are taught both discretely and within the context of each writing project, helping children understand how to apply these skills effectively.

We are committed to ensuring that every child becomes a successful writer. By combining the National Curriculum’s expectations with the power of high-quality literature, we nurture children who are enthusiastic, articulate and imaginative in their writing.
