Year 1

Welcome to Year 1.
Have a happy and safe half term. Don't forget to share a book or two...
Our next spring term topic is, 'Growing Good' based on the marvellous book by Bernard Ashely, Anne Wilson. We will be looking at plants and trees, wild flowers and garden varieties and growing our own food supply. English will include retelling this super story as well as writing a plant diary and instructions on planting.
Our School assembly falls in Science week and we look forward sharing our learning on the seasons with you through song and dance!
With the school year whizzing by, our focus for homework is the expectation that you read with your child as often as you can, ideally a  minimum of four times a week. We can see the progress they are making so thank you for your continued support and this skill allows them to access all areas of the curriculum.
As you know, our only expectation for homework is to listen to your child read. We have sent home some sheets that identify the phonemes your child struggles with. Please take the time to practise each sound by recapping a sheet a day before reading your book. Any questions please see the class teacher.
